At this appointment, we need a referral from your GP or specialist, and please bring any MRIs, x-rays, or scans. Your orthopaedic surgeon will update your referring doctor and/or GP after each appointment, so everyone in your healthcare team is kept up to date.

Next, your surgeon will ask about your orthopaedic condition and health history and perform a clinical examination. At this point, we may send you for further investigations.

To make things easier, we will send you a patient questionnaire before your first visit.

Before your surgery, we may recommended that you see a perioperative physician. We’ll help by providing a referral and arranging the appointment for you. The physician may send you for further tests and investigations if required.

They may meet with you in their own rooms, contact you via telehealth or visit you in hospital, and continue to check in on your progress throughout your stay.

A member of the Bend team will also provide you with information concerning your hospital stay, anticipated out-of-pocket expenses, instructions for your hospital admission and how to plan for your return home following surgery.

On the day before surgery it’s important to focus on preparation. Make sure you follow any specific instructions from your medical team.

Please note, your admission time and fasting instructions are found in your surgery paperwork. Advise us if you have a fever, cough, cold, recent skin/tear or injury as anesthesia or surgery may not be safe for your surgical procedure.

Please ensure that you arrive at your scheduled admission time, and let the hospital reception team know you’ve arrived.

Leave all valuables, jewellery and large sums of money at home. Also, please don’t wear makeup and remove your nail polish.

Our friendly hospital staff will take care of everything from here, ensuring you have all your last-minute questions answered and that you’re comfortable prior to your procedure.

Your surgeon will see you the day after surgery.

They will let you know how long you need to stay in hospital depending on your surgical procedure, your recovery and pre-operative health.

Next, your surgeon and or physiotherapist will help you get up and moving again and will let you know the regular exercises you’ll need to do to ensure a quick and successful recovery.

You will typically be seen by your doctor 1-2 weeks after surgery to check on your wound healing and general progress.

Our team will make sure you have a clear post-operative care program, including follow up physiotherapy appointments.

If you need home support services or help with personal care, our team will make sure everything is arranged for you before you leave. We’ll also organise or discuss your follow-up appointments with your orthopaedic surgeon, so you feel fully supported in your recovery.
